Commo-rose functions:
  • Place mortar strike (top button)
  • Place missile strike (bottom button)
  • Move here! (Middle circle)
  • Attack here! (Left button)
  • Defend here! (Right button)

Simply having these five commands would (IMO) greatly increase the effectiveness of the SL.  These commands sum up all the actions a SL would need his squad to perform, meanwhile keeping the commo-rose uncluttered and easy to use.

These commands would preferably be accompanied by 3d objective markers viewable by the squad only (with the exception of mortar strikes, obviously).

As far as whether I would rather have a map or a commo-rose... I honestly would want both.  This isn't a cop out; there are cases in which a map is more useful than a commo-rose, and vice versa.  For example, if the area I want to shell is out of my line of sight or hidden by a building, then a map proves invaluable.  Likewise, if I want my squad to attack a distant objective, a map is once more the medium of choice.  However, If I'm in a heated firefight and must quickly point out where my troops should direct their fire, a commo-rose is a necessity.

If I had to take one, I would have the commo-rose.  If at all possible though, I would take both.

I second hackman's comments; Had a really fun session with all you guys.  This was the first time I played with more than 3 people, and let me say that I'm hooked.  Can't wait to see you all on the battlefield again!

In the interest of easier teamwork, what about adding a squad leader commo-rose?  It would simply be another rose bound to a different key that would contain command related functions (i.e objective markers, requests for artillery, movement commands...).  This would allow squad leaders to place mortar strikes and command their squads without leaving themselves vulnerable by opening up the full map and obscuring their view.  This feature is in bf2 and works very well; I think it would work in CB as well.

Why not?  This should be easy to implement, works well on large maps, and allows for plenty of teamwork/strategy.

P.S.- I'm talking about 2 flag ctf, not intelligence for large maps.
