Hello, This is probably a message directed at Fabiolo since he is the resident map maker I would like to know how did you make the textures for the trees? Did you download them from somewhere or used illustrator/photoshop? what resolution are they. How many polygons (average) for your assets. The map I am planning to make requires new assets so that it is authentic, and I want to make them consistent with the rest of the games design. If you have any other details that I should know, please tell me so that I can start working on this. Thank you

Hello,
for the textures it comes from various place, some from cgtextures and other ( for tree) from website specialized in tree sell (i don't joke).
For the resolution, it depends of you uv, you can have 512x512 or 1024x1024. 2048 if you have a big uvw for the full assets can be acceptable.
For the polygon, it depends of many things, the size for your map, the use of occlusion or not. and it depends a lot of the object itself.
A car will be around 10-20 k for exemple, don't go over 30k for an object alone, prefer to make 2 or 3 different cgf for the same object if you want to go up.
And one thing important, don't forget to make lods for your assets, it's important.
good luck.

For the skybox you should use 2048x2048

Hello again, Fabio,
While using sandbox 2 I have noticed that there are different libraries and SDKs used depending on the game (Crysis, Crysis Wars, Casus Belli). Are you running Sandbox 2 from the Crysis root directory?
I have tried installing sandbox 2 in Crysis Wars root directory but it doesn't run. so I have been creating the map with the Crysis SDK and not the Crysis Wars. Will the affect compatibility?
I tried loading textures from the Casus Belli mod files but the textures are giving errors. I don't want to get to far into the map only to find that I used the wrong SDK and have to restart the whole project.
Thanks for all of your tips.

Hello
My sandbox is installed in the crysis wars folder, the exe of sandbox is in the bin64 (or 32).
To run it with Casus Belli, you have to use a shortcut like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis Wars\Bin64\Editor.exe" -mod casusbelli -dx9

In regards to map resolution:
Hello Fabiolo,
My heightmap resolution is 8192 X 8192 with meters per unit of 1; Is this acceptable? It doesn't drain my system resources because I have 8GB DDR3 with xfire 6870s and a phenom II X6 1100t. What is the usual resolution for the maps in CB? I made my resolution this large so that the skybox horizon doesn't stick out and look bad.
This thread will probably be very useful to future map makers of this game.

Hello
Most of the map are 4kx4k, some 2kx2k.
The size of the map will impact the ground texture file size but this should not impact a lot on fps. It depends of that you put on your map.
Do you have a screen for your horizon problem?

Hello Fabiolo,
I am still working on the map; if all goes well, I could complete it in time for version 1.3.
I have 2 questions:
What version of 3d studio max are you using? I was searching for the cryengine exporter utility and have discovered that it may not be compatible with 3dsmax 2011 and above; this can pose a serious problem since this map will require a lot of new assets to be created for it.
I have searched many places and have not found skyboxes for Cryengine (usually they are for unity, unreal engine, or source). What are some good resources for Cryengine skyboxes?
Can't wait for CB version 1.2 to be officially released.

Hello
For 3dsmax, you can only use the 2008 version or 3dsmx 9.
For the skybox there is a good topic in crydev.net forum. You can make a search using "skybox" or "landscape" and you should dind it.
Good luck
cheers
